Book Review: Watershed Moments by Gari Meacham

Watershed Moments:  Turing Points that Change the Course of Our Lives by Gari Meacham is a book with an interesting premise.  The author takes a look at seven different types of "watershed moments", or realizations we come to that are so profound that we can never be the same afterwards.  Sometimes these realizations come through specific events and sometimes they come simply as a matter of growth.  Either way, they are different times in our lives where our entire perspective about ourselves, life or God is permanently changed.

I found this book to be a refreshingly different approach to many of the topics that flood Christian literature today.  She takes a look at change, awareness, rebuilding, control, approval, overcoming, and belief, and expands on them using equal parts personal stories and biblical exposition.  Each section reads as if it were told by someone who has walked a certain path and they are giving you advice for traveling the same way.

One of my favorite aspects of this book is her biblical points of view.  She pulls unique meaning out of many of the stories and verses that have been used over and over again.  Her intellectual honesty when interpreting scripture is refreshing and adds much credibility to her observations on life and scripture.

I recommend this book to anyone who is walking through or who wants to walk through the mountains and valleys of personal growth.  It may not be a book that one would want to sit down and read from cover to cover.  Instead, the reader may want to look at the subjects and pick the ones that they most struggle with.

I received this book free of charge from booksneeze.com in return for my honest review.
