Book Review: The Full Armor of God by Larry Richards

I've read many books on spiritual warfare. The Full Armor of God: Defending Your Life From Satan's Schemes by Larry Richards, though, is one of the better ones out there. Though it comes from a more Charismatic publisher, I wouldn't consider this a Charismatic book. It is simply a very biblical book that deals with a reality of the spiritual realm, Satan. The book is organized very well, thorough, succinct, and above all else, biblical.

The book is organized by breaking down the entire book of Ephesians in order to elaborate on Ephesians 6:10-18. He takes each piece of armor listed and uses an earlier section of Ephesians to show how the full armor of God really is the key to defeating Satan and his demons. What I appreciated most about this book was the level of detail contained in the research, such as referring to the original Greek often, and the logical flow of organization. This book doesn't over or under sensationalize spiritual warfare. It is simply a matter of fact tome about what it is and what to do about it.

Included throughout the book are questions or activities to help one through whatever spiritual warfare they may be encountering. Also at the end of the book are eight sessions worth of small group questions. Both are relevant and useful in integrating this information into your spiritual walk.

Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who experiences spiritual warfare, whether you just began experiencing it or have studied it for some time. There was a good range of information that all can take something from.

I was given this book free of charge by Baker Publishing in return for my honest review.
