Book Review: When Bad Christians Happen to Good People by Dave Burchett

I loved this book! When Bad Christians Happen to Good People, by Dave Burchett, is full of hard truth, softened with a wit and conversational style that I found very entertaining. Being someone that becomes more and more disgusted with the elevation of the "Christian culture" above a relationship with Jesus himself, I already agreed with most of this book. It points out so many of the damaging behaviors that have grown up in the church that push both believers and non-believers that it serves as a self-check of sorts, forcing the reader to search their heart and motives.

Don't be mistaken, though. This book's aim is not church bashing. Instead, he calls Christians out on where they are misrepresenting Christ and gives inspiration to change our hearts to fix these issues. Unlike so many books similar to this one, Burchett admits to being part of the problem. He knows what to suggests because he has dealt with it himself and has either overcome the problems or is still struggling with them.

This book doesn't read so much like an instruction book as it does an analysis and challenge. This book can validate the feelings of those who have been hurt by misguided Christians, but also show that there is a better way and that is what Jesus intends for us. I would recommend this book to all Christians, especially those who are evangelistically minded.

I was given a copy of this book free of charge from Waterbrook Multinomah in exchange for my honest review.
