Book Review: Little Book of Great Dates by Dr. Greg & Erin Smalley

Little Book of Great Dates:  52 Creative Ideas to Make Your Marriage Fun by Dr. Greg & Erin Smalley is not exactly what it bills itself to be, but it is still a great book.  Based on the title, I assumed it would be creative ideas for things to do on dates, things that you would not necessarily think of to go and do with your spouse.  Instead, it is a collection of 52 ideas for spending time together that is meant to deepen your relationship.

The most useful parts of this book are the relationship building parts of the dates, which make up the majority of the information in the book.  They are things that would benefit any couple and are similar to things that a couple may be asked to do in marriage counseling in order to strengthen their marriage.  The less helpful parts of the book were when the authors suggested specific things to go and do.  Suggestions like getting couples massages, going rock climbing or going to the opera are definitely not for many people and honestly are not things that most people I know would enjoy.  Since these occupy a fairly small percentage of the book, it is not a huge deal.  In fact, thinking about my husband and I getting couples massages made me laugh!

Overall, I recommend this book to couples looking to connect to each other on a deeper and more intimate level.  If you are looking for date ideas, you may want to do look somewhere else.

I was provided this book free of charge from Tyndale House Publishers in return for my honest review.
